An Experiment in Good Will & Friendship
I have a bunch of greeting cards inside of which are lovely, heartwarming notes from my friends. I cherish them.
Today I was tweeting with a friend who, thanks to faulty wiring of her psyche, thinks that when people don’t reply to her tweets or status updates, those people are punishing her with silence. Yes, she knows that this is a result of abuse she endured long ago, but it feels real.
I thought of how it would be nice if my friend had a few notes from people, telling her how they appreciate her, encouraging her, etc. And then I thought maybe a few other people might like to have such notes.
I used to be part of a group that would, from time to time, sit in a circle as one person drew a name of someone else from the group. Then those two people would stand in the middle, with all of us watching. The first person would say about and to the other person whatever he or she wanted to say (briefly) as long as it was positive, uplifting, personal and sincere. Sometimes the two people hadn’t known each other but for a couple of days, but everyone in that group happened to be the kind of people who are quick to pick up on what’s wonderful about others, and they’re comfortable sharing it in front of everyone. Usually there were a LOT of hugs during these times.
I wondered if I could create a similar scenario but not exactly. I came up with the idea of creating an online form where any WichiTweep can leave a note for another one, even anonymously. I would then make a document for each person left a note, a compilation of all that was left for him or her. What I received by Saturday morning would be prepared to give to tweeps who come to the holiday tweet up Saturday evening, 12/19. For those who are not at the tweet up and for notes that are submitted too late, emails will be sent with a pdf next week.
It’s a kind of experiment, I guess, not to mention an opportunity for me to play with Google Docs. I don’t know what the response will be, but I’m prepared for a positive one.
If you would like to leave some notes, please follow this link.
Any questions?
